George Grant McLean, age 82, formerly from Green Hill, passed away Friday June 3, 2011, at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
George was a son of William S. McLean and Catherine (Fraser) McLean, Island East River. George was a retired employee of the N.S. Department of Transportation, where he worked for 35 years as a survey technician. He lived for most of his married life in the Green Hill area. He was married to Delthia (McCormick) McLean for 58 years and together they had 7 children. George is survived by his loving wife, Delthia; his children and their families: Susan McLean, Michael (Carmen), Brian (Andrea), Stephanie (Josh); John (Barbara), Rachael (Glen), Emily, Sarah (Don); Shelley (David) Cullen, Katie (Ian), John; Sherri (Cyril) Duggan, Hilary, Patrick; David (Stacey), Rylee, Tatum; Paul (Jennifer), Bridget, Isaac; and 2 great-grandchildren, Eric and Charlotte also his brother John (Ellen). George believed his fortune was his family.
George was predeceased by his parents; his son, Peter Grant McLean; sisters Elizabeth (Betty) McLean and Willene Walker. George was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge #50 and the Order of the Eastern Star #24. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A committal service will be held at the Durham Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of George may be made to the local SPCA.
