SMALL, MARJORIE ELIZABETH - (1913 – 2011) - Mrs. Marjorie Elizabeth Small of Castalia Grand Manan Island, widow of the late Leon Small, died at the Grand Manan Hospital June 5, 2011. She was born at “the Whistle” at Long Eddy, Grand Manan, N.B. to the late Edna (Tatton) and Chester Tatton, who was the whistle keeper at that time. Marjorie attended Normal School in Fredericton and was a dedicated teacher to Island students over the years. In 1940, she married Leon Small and made the Small house her home for over 70 years. She enjoyed so many things in life, from gardening, art and music, to tennis, curling, and golf. She love to dance and could often be seen dancing to the live music at the Farmer’s Market. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Carmen (Peter) Roberts of Seal Cove, grandsons Warren (Leslie) Spires, Adam (Petra) Spires, Dan (Abe) Roberts, Tim Roberts, eight grandchildren. One sister Gladys (Vernon) Eastwood, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Small and grandson Leon Spires.
Visiting will take place at Ells Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held from the Church of the Ascension North Head on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dana Dean officiating. The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
