MacLELLAN, Edna Annie (Mills) - 88, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Three Lakes, Quebec on October 12, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Violet (Hudson) Mills. She met her future husband when he was on an army course in her home town of Megantic in 1941 and they were married in uniform there in 1945. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps when it first formed in 1942 and received her early training in Quebec City after which she was posted to the Royal Canadian Engineers as a driver-courier. She drove staff members to engineering establishments throughout Eastern Quebec and was later promoted to Corporal and was appointed private driver to her Commanding Officer. She was discharged following the war in 1945 with three years service. She acquired a love of the outdoor life when growing up in Three Lakes and Megantic and became an avid fisherman and hunter (deer and moose). She enjoyed camping in Caledonia and at the cottage at Seffern Lake, where she grew a spacious vegetable garden. She and her husband loved tenting and camping throughout the New England States and Atlantic Canada, especially the far reaches of Newfoundland. She also took pleasure in crafting with her hands, carpentry, knitting, rug hooking, quilting, pen sketching, painting in acrylics and oils, gardening and other crafts. She is survived by a daughter, Catherine MacDonald, Fort Smith, NT; a son, William (Janet), Rockland, Kings County; a brother, Ernest, Brownville Junction, Maine; a granddaughter, Michelle MacDonald and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica MacDonald, all of Fort Smith; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Col C. Roger MacLellan; a son-in-law, Dan MacDonald, Fort Smith. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Vaughan Henshaw officiating. Burial took place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
