The death occurred at the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary, AB, on June 4, 2011, of Mary Colleen Monier (nee Palmer), age 51 years.
Dear wife of the late Bill Monier. Beloved daughter of Lou (Kilmer) and Mary (MacAdam) Palmer of Antigonish, N.S. Colleen is also lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters: Chris (Jan) Palmer of Bedford, N.S.; Lynne (Pat) Bradley of Suffolk, P.E.I.; Maureen (Brad) Barrie of Calgary, AB; and Michael (Catharine) Palmer of Calgary, AB. Predeceased by her infant brother, Gregory; grandparents, Alban and Tina MacAdam and George and Jeanette Palmer. She is adoringly remembered by her 12 nieces and nephews.
Colleen worked as a teacher and guidance counsellor for many years in the Calgary school system. She enjoyed the outdoors and was a natural athlete. She had many passions, including downhill skiing, running, hiking, scuba diving in Bonaire, and gardening. Over the years, she ran a total of 15 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 1998. She loved traveling and spending time at her parents’ cottage in Lakeside, P.E.I., for family get-togethers and playing cards (hearts), a family favorite.
She was a devout Catholic and contributed her time to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and to the GAMMA Girls program in Calgary, as well as to Chalice, through which she found many foster parents for Catholic sponsorship.
She fought a courageous battle with cancer with determination and grace, and will be remembered for her positive outlook and beautiful smile.
Visitation is on June 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Home in Calgary. A funeral mass will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Calgary on June 8. Interment at a later date at St. Theresa The Little Flower Church Cemetery, Morell, P.E.I.

In living memory of Colleen Monier, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park, Calgary.
