It is with sadness, but sense of relief, that we announce Don's peaceful passing in the wee hours of the morning on June 22, 2019. He battled Melanoma courageously with numerous triumphs. His strength, determination and eternal optimism will be remembered by all whose lives he has touched. The love of family and friends surrounded him, and we were grateful for the tranquility and rest that came over him.
Born March 9, 1952 in Mississauga, Don was an “all in” guy, devoted to his friends. Family was a privilege and was to be treasured and nurtured.
Don is survived by his best friend, Cindy; son, Jon and his wife Amber; daughter, Jessica and her fiancé Sheldon, and granddaughters, Merissa and ‘JJ’ Jordynn. Also left to mourn Don’s passing are, his brother, Glen and his wife Wanda; his mother, Mary; sister, Darleen, and brothers, Ray and Bill. Don was loved by his nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by all as “Unka Don”.
Besides his dad, Don Perks Sr., Don was predeceased by “mom and dad” Archie and Alice and Scott and Marilyn Wolstenholme, and grand-nephew, Noah.
The family wishes to thank our medical team, Dr. Lucy Heylar and Dr. Carmen Giacomantonio Halifax; Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. Stephanie Lapierre and Dr. Meaghan Keating CBRH; Dr. Paul Hickey and the Nursing Angels of 4D and VON services. Don referred to them as his Dream Team.
Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Tuesday June 25, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will also be held at a later date in Whistler, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of CBRH An Cala.
