Malcolm C. MacKinnon
Malcolm C. MacKinnon, “Mac” to those who knew and loved him) passed away peacefully in the early hours of June 11th, 2019, at the age of 83, in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Born on March 22, 1936, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to Mackie and Jennie (Cook), he grew up in Murray River, PEI with a fondly remembered childhood that forged a lifelong sense of family – however, a love for all things aviation and a wanderlust, lead Mac to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1956. While stationed in Bagotville, Quebec, a blind date introduced Mac to Susan (Manderson) and in November of 1960 the two were wed and within a year added to the family with the birth of their fist daughter, Jennifer. Four years later, their second daughter, Katherine was born. Mac’s career crisscrossed Canada from Nova Scotia to the Comox Valley – with four years at Baden-Soellingen, Germany – and witnessed many changes, from the unification of the RCAF into the Canadian Forces; to the replacement of the CP-107 Argus at CFB Greenwood. After twenty years of service, Mac retired to the Lower Mainland went to work as an aircraft engineer for Canadian Airlines (and subsequently Air Canada), An avid skier, fisherman, and crossword puzzle aficionado - he was a proud man – proud of his service, proud of his PEI roots, and prouder yet of his family. Mac is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Susan, daughter Jennifer (and son-in-law, Jim), daughter Katherine, his sister Jeannie Coffin (of Charlottetown, PEI), six grand children, two great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, brother & sister-in-laws, and countless lifelong friends who miss his presence until the end of time.
