WOOD, Charles Larry - It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Larry Wood, 69, of Scott’s Bay Road, Kings County on Saturday June 4, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Yarmouth on October 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Harry and Shirley (Robicheau) Wood. Charlie worked on the MV Bluenose, sailing from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor from 1960-1964. He graduated from the Maritime Forest Rangers School in 1965 and was employed with the Department of Natural Resources from January 1966 until his retirement in 1994. Following retirement, Charlie worked at Valley Hyundai and Chrysler Dodge, and in the bakery at Sobey’s in New Minas. Many will remember Charlie for his hip of beef buffet at J.R.’s in New Minas. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hours of hunting and fishing, especially his time at the hunting camp with his camp buddies. Charlie enjoyed many hours on the salt water with his fishing buddy, Keith. He was a wonderful cook and baker and spent many hours cooking great meals and baking cheesecake for family and friends. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his partner and best friend of 11 years, Karen (Tupper) Wood, whom he recently married on April 2. He is also survived by two sons, Brent Charles Wood, Coldbrook and Shane Thurston Wood, Woodville; special granddaughter, Kaitlyn Wood; three step-children; several step-grandchildren; a brother, Peter (Phyllis) Wood, Hubbard’s Point; two sisters, Patricia Forsythe, North Alton; Sue (Ian) Cox, Kentville; special niece, Tammy Forsythe, Montreal; several nieces and nephews; his hunting buddies, Rex, Al, Mitch, Bill, Cecil and John. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a twin at birth; special brothers-in-law, Gerry Robert Tupper and Robert “Grant” Cameron. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Peter Lohnes officiating. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses of Medical B at the Valley Regional Hospital and the VON and Palliative Care nurses. Charlie always felt better after your visits. Thanks also to all who helped in any way to make the wedding happen in April, joining our families together. A big hug and thank you to David and Lurenda Arenburg who have been like family and helped Charlie and I through this difficult time. It was Charlie’s wish that donations in memory may be made to the Canning (Scott’s Bay) Volunteer Fire Department.
