RAINFORTH, Dorris Christina (nee Smith) – October 19, 1932 – June 3, 2011 – Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer of the breast and lungs. Sadly missed by Jim, her husband of 55 years, daughter Lori Drumm (John) of Beamsville, son Stephen (Ney Duarte) of New York, granddaughter Jessica Roberts of Winnipeg, grandson James Roberts of Beamsville; sisters, Charlotte Herman of Boyle, Alberta, Gloria MacGregor of Ottawa, Marion Mayer of Sydney, British Columbia, Cora Smith of Vancouver, brother clayton of Spruce Grove, Alberta; as well as nieces and nephews from Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Predeceased by sister Myrtle Smith of Edmonton and brother Osbourne of Fort Vermilion, Alberta. Christina was employed with the Ontario Ministry of Revenue for some 20 years, retiring in 1992 as Services Manager at the Regional Assessment Office in St. Catharines. Following retirement she participated actively, often and passionately in the game of golf as a member of Sawmill Golf and Country Club, winning frequently, especially when prizes were at stake. Her first love was her family, children and grandchildren of which she was extremely proud and supportive. Unfortunately, failing health prevented her from attending the recent graduation of her granddaughter Jessica from Canada’s Royal Military College, Class of 2011. Many thanks to the medical profession, healthcare workers and providers, including Dr. Hal Hirte and support staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Dr. Stephen Taylor, Beamsville Medical Centre, the nurses of St. Elizabeth, in particular Barb Lichty and the St. Catharines Pro-RESP team who provided home and portable oxygen allowing Christina to live a quality of life over a period of five years which would not have otherwise been possible. Cremation has taken place. The family received friends at the Vineland Chapel of the Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St. on Wednesday, June 8th from 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm. A memorial service was held Thursday, June 9th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre, West Lincoln Memorial Hospital or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
