It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear uncle and friend Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Hill, 85, a longtime resident of Georges River on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, Kenny was the son of the late Harold ‘Hal’ and Pearl (Day) Hill.
He was employed as a cook with the Canadian National Railway, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or. and also served as church organist at St. Ann Church in Alder Point for many years. Kenny had a great love of music, a keen sense of humour and was an avid gardener. He loved a good game of crib, he enjoyed harness racing and in earlier years owned race horses. He was dedicated to his community and volunteered at the Georges River Hall. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Kenny is survived by his sister-in-law, Christine Hill, Georges River; special friends, John O’Brien (Donna Clarke) and Corrine Devoe; a special cousin Margaret Day; his nieces and nephews, Linda Lovett, Pearl Brown, Neil Hill, Luke Hill, Hal Hill, Kenny Hill, Darlene Burton, Debbie Eavis, Bonnie Eavis, Wanda Capstick and Michelle Williams.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his only brother, Cyril Luke Hill.
Visitation for Kenny will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
