Patricia Agnes Cantwell, 65, of New Glasgow, died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital on Sunday, September 6, 2009, following a difficult struggle with cancer.
Pat was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the second daughter of the late Harold and Angela (Hannon) Cantwell. She was predeceased by her brother James Joseph Cantwell in 1977.
She is survived by her sister Anne (Clary) Townsend of New Glasgow.
Pat began her education in St. John’s at the Convent of the Sister of Mercy and went on to the School of Nursing at the St. John’s General and graduated with an RN in 1965. She then spent most of her nursing career at the Sutter Memorial in Sacramento, California. In 1984, she returned to Canada and earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Dalhousie University. From Sacramento, she left for the Middle East and was appointed a Nursing Supervisor at the King Fahad National Grand Hospital for a period of 12 years. In the summer of 2008, she returned to Canada for retirement in New Glasgow.
A memorial service will be held at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in New Glasgow, officiated by Father Gary MacPherson, on Wednesday, September 9 at 2 p.m.
A special thanks to the Sutherland-Harris Restorative Unit and the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital and to those personal friends who gave her comfort while in the unit.
