POIRIER, PHILIAS - Philias Poirier, 87, of Moncton, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Centre Hospital. Born on June 10, 1924 in Rogersville (Bloc 14), NB, he was the son of the late Docithée and Roseanne (Richard) Poirier. Before his retirement, Philias worked as a meat cutter for Swift Meat Packing for 33 years and for Hub Meat Packers for 13 years. He was a faithful parishioner at Christ-Roi R.C. church and a member of the Christ-Roi Golden Age Club and the Knights of Columbus. Proud father who enjoyed life and always had a smile to brighten your day, he was an avid card player and loved bowling, bicycling and family gatherings. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hermine (Drisdelle); two daughters: Dorine Maillet (John) and Claudette LeBlanc (Jean-Guy), both of Moncton; five sons: Normand (Jeannette) of Cocagne, Roger (Linda) of Ottawa, ON, Léonard (Murielle) of Moncton, Claude (Carmelle) of Dieppe and Daniel of Vancouver, BC; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by five sisters: Emma, Alma, Lina, Leona and Rita; as well as six brothers: Willie, Maxime, Sylvain, Gérard, Edgar and Léonard.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until departure (10:45). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ-Roi R.C. Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton, on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
