RAMSAY, J. S. WILLARD (Bill) - Passed away peacefully on 17 June, 2011 in Winnipeg. He is remembered by his wife Nell, son Michael, daughter Kathy (Paul) Hearsum, grandchildren Kelli (Mitch), Reid and Breanne, sister Noreen, sister-in-law Vera, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father Albert, mother Marceline, infant son Philip, brothers Louis, Peter, Joseph, Brian, sister Viola, brother-in-law Edward Ruchkall and his wife Shirley. Born on 22 January, 1921 in Barryville, NB, Bill joined the RCAF in 1941 and enlisted in the RCMP in 1946 after demobilization. While stationed in Flin Flon, MB he met the woman who would be his love for sixty years, marrying Nell on 16 July 1951. Bill proudly served in the RCMP and his career took the family to Sydney and Halifax, NS and then to Winnipeg, where he retired in 1971. Bill then worked in the security detail at the Bank of Canada until he retired for a second time in 1981. Now fully retired, Bill and Nell traveled widely throughout Europe and Israel, with the highlight a visit to Rome and the Holy Land. They escaped Winnipeg’s cold winter months with frequent trips to Hawaii. Summers were spent fishing, playing bridge and cribbage and relaxing in their trailer at Royal Lake. Bill retained his ties to the RCMP, actively participating in the RCMP Veterans’ Association, “D” Division. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus as part of his devotion to the Roman Catholic faith. Bill’s family appreciates the kindness and care he received from Dr. David Breckman, the home care helpers and the staff on the third floor of Grace Hospital, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace General Hospital Foundation or another appropriate charity. A funeral mass will held at Blessed John XXIII, 3390 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg on Thursday 23 June 2011.
