CURTIS, ROBERT JOHN - Robert Curtis of Nashwaak Village passed away on June 18, 2011 at DECH at the age of 85. He was born in Toronto to the late Alfred and Irene (Elliott) Curtis. Bob was a 1956 M. of Animal Science (Animal Genetics) graduate of the University of Toronto (OAC-Guelph). He worked as an Agriculture Research Scientist with the Canada Dept. of Agriculture, Research Station, Fredericton for almost 10 years and then as a Livestock Field Technician with NB Dept. of Agriculture, Fredericton where he retired in 1986. He enjoyed working with cattle, especially the Jerseys in which he diligently promoted throughout Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club, as well as an honorary life member of the Canadian Society of Animal Science and the Dairy Shrine Club. Bob was a cattle judge at various farm shows around southern NB. Along with his long time good friends, George and Stephen Brown, he took show cows to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto and into the US. Bob was a long-time member of All Saint’s Anglican Church, Marysville. He loved nature and you could find him fishing for salmon or trout on the Miramichi or the Nashwaak Rivers every summer. He loved to tie his own flies and enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, tree naming, reading, walking, and visiting with his farm friends. Bob is survived by his stepchildren, Glen (Tina) Kennedy, Lincoln and Mavis Kennedy, Fredericton; his grandchildren, Adam (Daphne) Kennedy, Woodstock, Anthony (Victoria) Kennedy, Lincoln and Shasta (Evan Brewer) Kennedy, Lincoln; and his adorable great-grandchildren, Aiden, Erica, and Kiera Kennedy. His wife, Wilma (London) (Kennedy) in 2004 and his great-granddaughter, Madison Kennedy in 2009, as well as his younger brother, William in 1999, and parents predeceased him. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation is to be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Service will be from All Saint’s Anglican Church, Canada St. (Marysville), on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 2 PM with Canon Rev. John Cathcart officiating. Private family committal will follow immediately at Lower Lincoln Cemetery, with a reception for family and friends at Wesley United Church, Rte. 102, Lower Lincoln (across from Nevers Rd.) All are welcome. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Wildlife Federation or charity of the donor's choice".
