William ‘Junior’ Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Junior was the son of the late William and Etta (Cameron) Buchanan.
He was employed at the Point Edward Naval base and also worked with his brother Wally delivering mail.
Junior loved sports and played both hockey and softball and in his later years he enjoyed being a spectator. At one time he played softball with The Bay Byes.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas in Europe and Scotland. He enlisted at the young age of 17 years.
Junior is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jean (Richards). Also surviving are two sisters, Eva, Glace Bay, Norma, Toronto; and a brother, Eddie (Alma), Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, William and Etta, he was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy, Aubrey, Wally, Eric and sisters, Margaret, Hattie and Lorraine.
Visitation for Mr. Buchanan will take place on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held in Patten Chapel, Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Findlayson officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney Road.
