It is with sadness we announce the passing of Robert McGovern, 46, of Morley Road, Sydney Forks, and formerly of New Waterford on Sept. 5, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Rose (Banville), New Waterford and the late John McGovern.
Robert was, at one time, a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford.
He enjoyed the art of photography as well as spending time researching information on the internet. Just recently he became interested in watching soccer matches on television.
Surviving are his wife, Janice (Duffy) and their son, Kodi, at home. Robert is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, John, in 1997, maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Agnes Banville and paternal grandparents, John and Elsie McGovern.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private family funeral service officiated by Rev. Dana Feltmate was held Wednesday, Sept. 9 in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.
