It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle and friend, Daniel MacDonnell. Daniel passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Anne (MacNeil) MacDonnell.
Daniel was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. He was a painter by trade and was employed with various painting companies over the years. Daniel donated regularly to the Food Bank and other charities.
Daniel will be sadly missed by his brother, John S. ‘Skippy’, with whom he resided, Glace Bay; sisters, Mary McKeigan, Glace Bay and Harriet Walker, Reserve Mines. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Daniel was predeceased by brothers, Michael MacDonnell, Charles MacDonnell and William MacPherson; sisters, Catherine Reyneart and Elizabeth Green.
In honouring Daniel’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
