On April 9, 2011, our lives were forever changed with the sudden passing of our wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. No words can even come close to expressing our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love, compassion and support from our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. To the Cape Breton Regional Police management and staff, thank you. To Tom and Carol Ripley for your trip to Universite Sainte-Anne, thank you so much. To all the people who visited, brought food to our homes, the many phone calls, gift baskets, flowers, memorial tributes, mass cards, sympathy cards, and donations to various charities, thank you. To Nova Scotia and Canadian Chiefs of Police and sworn officers, who travelled from across the province, and country, to be with us at this difficult time, and who sent condolences, we are especially grateful. To RCMP Commissioner William Elliott and all members of the Federal Police force, your presence and compassion is gratefully acknowledged. To Lt. Col. John McEachern, CO CBH; LCdr. Sherman Hinze and all military personnel, along with the Cape Breton Highlanders Pipe Band, we thank you for your assistance in providing an honorable and distinguished farewell to Chief Burke. A special thank you to Chief Frank Beazley for including the Halifax Regional Police Mounted Unit and Motorcycle Unit in the funeral procession.
To Premier Darrell Dexter and representatives from all political parties; the Department of Justice and all federal, provincial and municipal government agencies; members of the Judicial system, Supreme Court Justices, Provincial Court Judges, Nova Scotia Barristers Society, Cape Breton Barristers Society, Public Prosecution Office, Sydney Justice Centre; and Corrections to Cape Breton University; to Chief Terry Paul and the Membertou First Nation; and to all Chief Burke’s colleagues, associates, community partners, and friends. We know you, too, feel the depth of his loss, and we extend a heartfelt thank you for your presence, kind words and messages, offers for assistance, attendance and participation at the visitation and funeral, and your sympathy and support.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Mayor John Morgan, CBRM Council, Directors, and staff for your many calls, messages of condolence, and for your presence, support, compassion and concern. And, to the Cape Breton Regional Police Retirees Association, our sincerest thank you for your presence, your assistance and your continued words of support.

We gratefully acknowledge the citizens in our communities who came out to pay a final tribute to Chief Burke; your presence during the visitation, and as you lined the streets in quiet, solemn reverence will always be remembered.
To all others who have not been mentioned by name, the Cape Breton Regional Police Service expresses our sincerest thank you for your unwavering support during this great loss. Everyone’s thoughtfulness and support has helped comfort in ways words cannot convey.
May every act of kindness you have shown to Chief Myles Burke, his family and the Cape Breton Regional Police Service return to you with many blessings.
