MATHESON, NELLIE LEONA - Peacefully on June 23, 2011, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB Mrs. Nellie Leona (Leslie) Matheson, wife of the late Mr. Gerald Matheson of Back Bay, NB went home to be with her Lord. Nellie was born in Back Bay, NB on October 25, 1913 and she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Cora Leslie. Mother to eight loving children: Gerald “Sonny” (Ethel) of New Zion, NB; Janet (Leo) Harmon of St. Andrews, NB; Garnet (Linda) of Back Bay, NB; Norma (Cyril) Hanley of Back Bay, NB; Leona (Colin) Borthwick of Breadalbane, NB; Brent (Brenda) Matheson of Canal, NB and daughter-in-law Ruth Matheson of St. Stephen, NB. Nellie is also survived by her sister Hilda Hanley of Back Bay, NB and brother Ernest Matheson of Back Bay, NB. “Grammie” was loved and will be greatly missed by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by one son, Burton Matheson, one daughter, Mary French, brothers Arthur Leslie, Fred Matheson, and sisters Erma Mitchell and Marguerite Hanley. A lifelong member of the Seaview Full Gospel Church of Back Bay, NB, Nellie enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. Her hobbies included knitting mittens, talking on the phone, reading and giving everyone bear hugs. Nellie was a friend to everyone. Nellie was a resident of the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB for the past 3 ½ years. She was blessed to be cared for by Dr. Kallio and the home’s wonderful nursing, kitchen and housekeeping staff. Cousin and friend, “Little” Sue MacKillop and nurse Kathy Hooper provided Nellie with exceptional care during her life at the nursing home and your love will never be forgotten.
Resting at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB from where the service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating followed by the interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church will take place on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. In Nellie’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
