Chalmers Stephen “Challie” Stewart, 37, Thorburn, passed away, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alta.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Chalmers Campbell and Helen Beatrice (James) Stewart. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn. Challie was a ticketed Red Seal Pipe Welder, employed with Shell Oil, Fort Saskatchewan, and a member of UA Local 244 Plumbers & Pipefitters. He enjoyed body building, working out, playing hockey, fishing and swimming at Park Falls. Challie’s pride and joy was his “boy”, Nick.
Surviving are his son, Nicholas Stephen Turnbull, Stellarton; sister, Helen Anne Stewart (Vaughn Fraser), St. John, N.B.; brother, John Frederick Stewart, Thorburn; niece, Brandie Stewart, Kingston, Ont.; half-sister, Lois Robson, Thorburn; nephews, Nicholas and Alan Robson; many aunts and uncles; numerous cousins.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery.
