Mitchell, Dr. Calvin “Ross” – 1928-2009, Truro
Dearly beloved husband and father, Ross Mitchell passed away on September 10, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Robert and Margaret (Archibald) Mitchell. Ross was a graduate of the class of 1950 of the University of Toronto. He then joined his father’s practice as an Optometrist and loved his work for nearly 60 years. Equally well known for his athletic pursuits, he won numerous Canadian Championships, including setting several Canadian records in Masters Track & Field. In 1995 he won a bronze medal at the World Masters Track & Field Championships. He was a member of the Truro Golf Club for more than 50 years, and boasted a 6 handicap for several of those years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye (Higgins); his sons, David and Paul; daughters; Margaret and Rebecca; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. His positive spirit and generosity will be sorely missed. No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia would be greatly appreciated.
