Of Renews, October 19, 1903 - September 11, 2009 — Passed peacefully away surrounded by his family on Friday, September 11, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. Paddy (Iron) McCarthy one month short of his 106th birthday. Predeceased by his parents John and Anne (Cahill), his wife Mary (Cahill), his son John, his brothers Bill (Clara) and John (Louise) sisters Mary, Marie (Jim Walsh), Bertha (Dan) Pittman, Anne (Pat) O’Neill; son-in-law Joe Thorne; nephew Jim (Wacker) O’Neill; niece Kathryn Walsh. Left not to mourn but to celebrate his long life are his children Ed (Patricia), Bertha Thorne, Kieran (Blanche), Eugene (aka Bart) (Marion); daughter-in-law Mabel McCarthy and Ita McCarthy; his 12 grandchildren Kelly (Mark) Philpott, Darlene McCarthy, Donna (John) Dinn, Dana McCarthy, Rod (Kelly) McCarthy, Gerard Thorne (Christian Stoyles), John (Tamara) Thorne, Christine (Barry Reddy), Ken McCarthy, Michael (Debbie) McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy (Joanne Whelan) and Lisa McCarthy; 16 great-grandchildren: Sarah McCarthy, Lenny MCCarthy, Chantelle (Pat) English; Amanda Quinn (Rob Houston); Devinn Dinn; Gage McCarthy; Patrick, Rebecca and Morgan McCarthy; Owen and Liam Thorne; Samantha McCarthy; Lexi, Gabe, Dani and Dominic McCarthy; one great great grandchild, Jaden McCarthy, nephew and nieces Pat O’Neil, Anne Marie (Blair) Sibbald, Rita (John) Chidley; his extended family The Ryans of Chapel’s Cove, Mary, Gordon (Ros), Barb (Bill) Wilson, Gerri (Bren) Lewis, Janet (Brian) Hynes, Eugene (Sue), Paula (Bob) Osbourne, other relatives and friends, special friend Mark O’Brien (Bucko), a St. Pat’s resident. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home on Sunday, September 14, 2009 from 2-9 p.m. and at Fahey’s Funeral Home, Fermeuse, on Monday, September 14, 2009 from 2-9 p.m. and Tuesday, September 15 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral mass of Christian burial on Tuesday September 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. from Holy Apostles Church, Renews. Interment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Renews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Mercy Home or to the charity of one’s choice.
