FARRIS, Gary “Glenn”– 52 of New Minas, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville due to complications after appendectomy surgery. Born on October 16, 1958, he was the eldest son of Gary and Laura (Beach) Farris of White Rock. As a sports fan, Glenn was known to cheer for his Boston Bruins and in his earlier years, he was an avid golfer, bowler and softball player. Glenn loved music and he was a member of the Alabama fan club. He had been employed for many years with Hostess-Frito Lay until illness forced him into early retirement after which he found his love of flea marketing. Glenn was a proud volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He also organized the Stan Beach Memorial car rallies to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and most recently volunteered his time to assist at the Relay for Life event in Kentville. Glenn was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch No. 74 in Wolfville for 31 years. In addition to his parents, Glenn is survived by his best friend and partner Myrna Smeltzer; his son, Brent Farris, New Minas; stepchildren, Ryan Bigelow, Centreville and Beth Bigelow, Wolfville; brothers, Mark Farris, White Rock (Heather Best, Kentville), and Lindsey Farris (Tabatha Jones), North Alton; grandmother, Roberta Beach, New Minas; nephews, Kristopher, Tristan and Reece; nieces, Jennifer, Kaitlyn and Raya; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Glenn was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Stanley Beach and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Hilda Farris. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
