Mary Cecilia (Ducey) Fitzgerald

Mary Cecilia (Ducey) Fitzgerald

Date de décès : 26 juin 2011

1925 - 2011. Passed peacefully on June 26, 2011 in St. John’s surrounded by four generations of her loving family. Celine, as she was known to many, was born and raised in Keels, Bonavista Bay and lived in several rural Newfoundland communities before settling with her family in St. John’s where she lived for the balance of her life. Celine often fondly recalled her time in Tickle Cove where she taught for a number of years before focusing her energies towards raising her six children with her devoted husband Bill. Before moving to St. John’s, Celine and Bill lived in and developed close relationships in communities such as Port aux Port, Norris Arm and Gambo where Bill taught while their family grew. Their final move was into St. John’s to allow Bill to teach at St. Patrick’s Hall and Brother Rice High School, where he served as Vice-principal. After raising her children, Celine was proud to begin a second career, working in the Admitting Department of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital from 1980 until her retirement in 1992. Though surrounded by friends and family throughout her life, Celine treasured her independence. Some of her greatest joys came from gardening, bridge and, in her latest years, spending time with her great-grandchildren. Celine was known and loved by many for her stories and the humour she found in life. Celine is pre-deceased by her parents, Elizabeth Ann and Thomas Ducey; her brothers: Bernard and Kevin and sister Catherine Carew; her husband, Bill (1974); and her son Gerard (1994). She will be sadly missed by her children: Maureen Harvey, St. John’s, N.L., William (Gina), Rocky Mountain House, Alta., Brenda, Saskatoon, Sask., Rosemary (Michael Peck) Toronto, Ont., Patricia Juvik (Ken) Anmore, B.C; grandchildren: Chéron FitzGerald, Michael Harvey (Andrea Hearn), Cathy Rowe (Chris), Brian Harvey (Chrissy), Mark and Lisa Harvey, Caitlin and Jillian FitzGerald, Gordon, Andrew and Thomas Peck; Emily, Sarah and Jonathan Juvik; great-grandchildren Anna and Katie Rowe, William and Isabelle Harvey, and Maxwell Harvey; brothers: Adrian (Bride) and John (Anne) and sisters: Margaret Hinchey (Morgan), Loretta Byrne (Vincent, deceased), Barbara Carey (Frank, deceased); daughter-in-law Ana Liza DePano; lifelong friend Mary Long, also a large circle of beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday and Tuesday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Mary Queen of Peace Church on Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
