The death of Rita Cormier, 79, of Moncton and formerly of Port Elgin occurred at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital on Sunday, June 26, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Shemogue, Rita was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mathilde (Legere) Cormier.
Rita was a member of St. Clements Parish, Port Elgin and had been a member of the Catholic Women's Group. She was a housekeeper and an important part of the families to which she was devoted, especially David and Jane.
She will be sadly missed by her three sisters, Mabel Fagan, Emerise Cormier and Emma Cormier, all from Port Elgin; two brothers, Leo of Grand-Barachois and Fred (Jeannine) of Port Elgin; four nephews Marc (Dawn) Cormier, George (Phyllis) Fagan, Joseph (Therese) Cormier, and Gerald (Monique) Cormier; four nieces, Jean (Stan) MacLeod-Warner, Leona (Alec) Guthreau, Maria Duguay and Louise (Louis) Bergeron; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Henry Fagan and a sister-in-law, Augusta Cormier.
Honoring Rita's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation was held at Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin (538-2241) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, and will also be held on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until departure. Funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, from St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin. Following the service, Rita's remains will be interred in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Rita's memory can be made to the St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin.
