Muriel Gladys Darby, 80, beloved sister and aunt, passed away Friday, September 11, 2009, at her home in New York City.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Harriet (Jenny) Darby.
Muriel attended Sydney schools before graduating from the Glace Bay General Hospital nursing program. She worked briefly at Sydney City Hospital before moving to New York to continue her career at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where she remained until her retirement from nursing.
Muriel was a kind, caring and compassionate person who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Although she spent most of her life in N.Y., Muriel made sure she returned “home†every year to be with her family in Cape Breton. She will be profoundly missed by all.
Muriel is survived by her only sister, Evelyn MacDonald, Sydney; nephews, Richard MacDonald, Inverness, Howard MacDonald, Sydney, Eric MacDonald, Calgary; niece, Jane Monaghan, Coxheath and grandnephews and nieces.
