Jerry passed away peacefully at City Hospital in Saskatoon, SK on September 11, 2009. He was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1926 with his parents William and Tatania Orychyn. Jerry attended Fanford School and joined the Canadian Army when he was 19. After serving from 1942 – 1945 he came back and farmed with his parents in the Steep Creek and Fir Ridge area. He retired from farming and looked after his father in Prince Albert until William passed away at 100 years. Jerry was predeceased by his parents and by his brother-in-law Morris Stefaniuk. Laddie was a humble man with a quick wit and a keen sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his sister Olga Stefaniuk and her sons Terry (Barb) of Kerrobert and Bill (Jackie) of Saskatoon; as well as his great-nephews Matthew, Zachary, Max and Riley and his great niece Vanessa. Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 684 – 3rd Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK. Both services will be officiated by Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 - 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 or Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
