RIVERTON - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Gladys (nee Clark) MacIntosh Holley on Monday, September 14, 2009, in the Valley View Villa, Riverton.
Born March 19, 1929, in Sdyney Mines, Cape Breton, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine (MacDonald) Clark.
Gladys was a resident of the Villa for the past year having previously resided in Stellarton and Eureka for most of her married life. Gladys was an adherent of the former Wesley United Church, Eureka and up until her death, a member of the St. Columba United Church, Hopewell. She was a member of the choir of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 75 Eureka, the RCAF and auxiliary. She loved to go dancing and travelling to Cape Breton to visit with her family. Gladys known as “Nana Holley” had a great passion for her family, especially to her grandchildren. She was very proud of them and their accomplishments.
She will be sadly missed by Andrew, Adam, Aaron and Kyle. She was a kind and compassionate loving woman who will be missed and remembered by everyone whose lives she enriched and by her childhood friend, Audrey (Gordon) Cameron.
Gladys is survived by her only daughter, Judy (Steven) MacLeod, Alberta; sons: Kevin (Crystal) MacIntosh, Eureka; Paul MacIntosh, Virginia, USA; and Bob Richards, Florida; step-daughters: Catherine (Bill) Haslam, Whitehill; Margaret (Bob) Porter, Green Hill; and Maureen (Ed) Crane, Fairview; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alan Clark, Cape Breton.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Chester (Sonny) MacIntosh; her second husband, Murray Holley; sisters: Lillian Clark, Martha Pottle, Olive Pottle, Eva McEwan, Mary Morrison and Edna Gordon; brothers: Bill, David, Frank, Ernie and twin brother, Elmer.
Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Columba United Church, Hopewell, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will take place in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of Mom may be made to the Long Term Care of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
On behalf of the family, we wish to express our sincere “thanks and appreciation” to the staff of Valley View Villa and the staff of the Long Term Care at the Aberdeen Hospital and as well to Dr. Grant Kirk for their care of our Mom while she was a resident and in their care.
