FISHER, Phyllis Paige (Brydon) - 77, of Somerset, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. It is with great sorrow that we say good-bye to a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister in-law, aunt and friend. Born in Black Rock, Kings County, she was the only daughter of the late Stanley and Ina (Pineo) Brydon. After graduating from Middleton Regional High School, she taught school in Chipman Brook, Garland and Somerset. Following graduation from Mack Business College, she joined the Royal Bank of Canada and worked for 27 years at RBC branches in Berwick, Waterville and Coldbrook. Active in many different ways within the community and church throughout her life, she attended the Berwick Baptist Church for nearly 40 years, serving on numerous committees and in many roles including President of the "57" Auxiliary, serving as the first lady Deacon and founding the Junior Choir. One of her many passions and interests was her love of music. She sang from her childhood and continued to do so as a member of the Church’s Senior Choir for nearly 40 years. She was soloist at weddings, funerals and church services throughout the years, taught voice lessons and was a member in several other choirs, including Kings Chorale for some 20 years. In her latter years, she attended the Berwick United Church where she also sang in the church choir, was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and served on other church committees. Another of her life passions was her enjoyment of politics. An active member of the Progressive Conservative Party, she was a tireless worker on many political campaigns at both the provincial and federal levels. She served as secretary of the Kings West Progressive Conservative Association and as secretary of the Progressive Conservative Women’s Association from which she was honoured with a Life Membership. Active within the community, she was a co-founder of both the Berwick and District Brownies and the Berwick and District Figure Skating Club. She was also involved in the founding of the Berwick and District Guides. She was the Chair of the Gala Days Princess Committee for two years, served as an active member of the Berwick and District Lionettes for 36 years, and held office positions with the Berwick Diabetic Group for the past several years. She continued to be very active in the community, until her illness prevented her from doing so, giving generously of her time and talents to those in need. Always willing to lend a helping hand or a ready ear, she was a very patient friend known for her warm, friendly smile, her skill as a wonderful cook, and the enjoyment she received from entertaining others. In Somerset or at the cottage in Black Rock, she enjoyed both reading and tending to her flower gardens. But of all her passions, her greatest was that of love and devotion to family. She was a loving wife, patient mother and caring grandmother who enjoyed a very special relationship with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Allison, Somerset; daughter, Joan (Doug) Ottawa; grandchildren, Katherine and Evan; brother, Vere, Halifax; sister-in-law, Jean and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Chester, Allan and Merlin.
