It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and brother, Joseph Hogan, on Sept. 14, 2009 at the QEII Hospital, Halifax.
Born in New Waterford, Sept. 21, 1943, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Regina (Vansfield) Hogan, and was a member of the Parish of Saint Leonard’s/St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan.
Joe loved music and was well known for his guitar playing and singing. He was also a member of the CB Radio Club and spent many hours entertaining other CB’ers under his handle “Teabags.†Joe also enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, hunting and making ‘mud runs’ with the Scotchtown Mud Runners.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Joanne (Angus) Kearney, Scotchtown; and four beautiful grandchildren that he cherished, Zachary, Mary, Stephen and Joella. He is also survived by his two sisters, Helen Totten, Scotchtown, and Leona (Real) Lapointe, Quebec; and his two brothers, James ‘Dutchie’ (Donna) Hogan, Scotchtown, and Michael Hogan, Mira, C.B.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his longtime companion, Ellen Kearney in 2007, whom he cared for during her long illness. He was also preceded by brothers, Jerry (Juddy) Hogan and Danny Hogan, and by sisters, Mary (Jack) Deslauriers, Quebec, and Linda Hogan.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Home, 380 Smith St, New Waterford. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Paul MacNeil at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan.
A reception will take place at the home of his brother, James ‘Dutchie’ (Donna) Hogan’s residence at 69 Maple St., Scotchtown, following the burial.
