Passed away peacefully after a short illness on July 3, 2011, Katherine Hennessey of Avondale. Left with loving memories sons: Pete Shea (Helen) of St. John’s and Larry Hennessey (Theresa) of North Vancouver; grandchildren: Erin and Dan Shea, Greg and Alexandra Hennessey; great-grandson John Murphy; sisters: Margaret Doyle and Louise O’Flaherty of Avondale; special friend and cousin Elaine Kendall of Pennsylvania; and a large circle of extended family and friends. Predeceased by husbands Bernard Shea and Larry Hennessey, parents Patrick and Louisa Mary Lyons, and brothers: Jim and Pete Lyons. Many thanks to the staff of the Coronary Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s for their care, compassion, and support to Katie and her family during her last days. For many years Katie was an active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion in Holyrood and the Vale of Avoca Seniors’ Club in Avondale. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home in Holyrood. Visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6. The funeral will take place on Thursday, July 7, 2011, 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial from Assumption Church in Avondale. Interment will be at Assumption Cemetery in Avondale.
