Julien Gustave ”George” VanAudenhove

Julien Gustave ”George” VanAudenhove, 86 of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, formerly of Stellarton, passed away July 8, 2011 in the unit.
Born in Lens, France, he was the son of the late Gustave and Martha (Crozer) VanAudenhove.
George was a resident of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit for the past two years having previously resided in Stellarton where he owned and operated the V&S corner store since 1973.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Stellarton.
He was a member of the Merchant Navy during World War II serving aboard the Lady Nelson.
In earlier years, he worked at Van’s Poultry farm in Lower South River, Antigonish, and also worked as a hotel manager for a number of years at various locations.
He is survived by a son, Paul, Stellarton; a grandson Julien, Port Hawkesbury.
He was predeceased by his first wife Emilia Stalmans, second wife Madeleine VandeWeyer, a son George L.
His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
