1917 – 2009
Rhea Mitchell passed away at the Golden Hill of the Herb Bassett Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 18 from River Park Memorial Chapel –301 River Street West. Reverend Rick Martin will officiate. Rhea was born in Bonnyville, Alberta in 1917 to Rosina (nee Strasbourg) and Faraid Vezeau. She was predeceased by her husband William; her parents; her brothers Paul and Raoul and a sister Paula Wilkinson. Left to mourn are her sons John (Denise) of Quebec, William (Sandra) of Prince Albert; her daughter Pat of Thunder Bay, ON; her grandchildren Lynn (Darcy) Otto, Michelle Mitchell, Colleen White and William Mitchell including several great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren Cara and David Brown and Angela (Darren) Meville; her three step-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rhea met and married the love of her life, William Mitchell, who came from Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. She was 19 at that time. They moved up to La Ronge with the Hudson Bay Company and then to Island Lake, Manitoba and lastly to Lansdowne House, Ontario. In that time they had 3 children. While in Lansdowne House the Mitchell’s made some very good friendships and lived a very interesting life. Rhea had many stories to tell of their lives up north. The family stayed there until the sudden death of her husband in June of 1962. Rhea then moved with her family down to Prince Albert, SK. Rhea was a very creative person who enjoyed all kinds of music, dancing and figure skating. She loved animals, gardening and flowers. Rhea could play the mouth organ and guitar at the same time. She enjoyed making sculptures out of seashells, crocheting, sewing, knitting and cooking. She enjoyed company and always made the best of things without complaining. Her warm smile and welcoming hugs and kisses will be remembered and missed by all those who got to know her well. Rhea truly loved the Lord and believed in prayer. In the last years of her life she was blessed to have made a very close friend by the name of Gertie. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Rhea may be made to Herb Bassett Nursing Home.
