AMHERST, NS The death of William "Bill" Furlong, age 70, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, September 10, 2009, with his family by his side.
Born in Linden, NS, he was a son of the late Ross and Reta (Smith) Furlong.
Bill worked for DA Casey for 10 years, prior to becoming partner with his father in an owner/operator garage operation in Amherst. In later years he operated on his own spending a total of 45 years in the garage business in Amherst. He was a member of the Trinity-St. Stephen United Church and a former cub and scout master.
Bill will be sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, the former Myrna Gould, Amherst; 2 sons, Arnold (Marlene), Fall River, NS and Christopher, Calgary, AB; a daughter, Donelda (Cory) Wygiera, Innisfail, AB; 5 grandchildren, Kirk, Bradley, Anastasia, Shadow and Baily; as well as a brother Leon (Cathy) ; aunts and uncles.
Bill has been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst,(902-667-8777) from where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 2 pm. Burial in the Shinimicas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the VON, Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society or a fund of the donor's choice, gratefully accepted. www.furlongjones.ca
