Carmie passed away peacefully Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, March 31, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James and Gertrude (MacDonald) Young. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines.
Carmie was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest passion in life was her family, which she adored and loved to be surrounded by. Her door was always open to her family and friends with love and great wit. She had eyes as bright as stars, and a heart that would warm your soul.
She was a loving wife to her husband of 48 years, Albert (Bert) Ivey, and a wonderful mother to her six children, Ronnie (Lynn), Millville, Debbie, Rick (Mary Ellen) and Stephen, all of Sydney Mines, Tracey (Art), Fort McMurray, and Andrea (Shane), Greenwood; son-in-law, George MacMullin, Sydney Mines. Also left to mourn are her loving grandchildren, Chris (Tara), Marisa (Michael), Brianna, Carly, Haley, Erin, Jillian, Brandon, Jared, Chelsea, Deidre, Kyle and Lauryn, and her great-grandson, Joshua. Carmie is also survived by her sisters, Eileen (Malcolm) MacIntyre, Glace Bay, Iris (Lloyd) Gaudet, Summerside, Ann (Fred) Morris, Lower Sackville; and brothers, Blair and Urbin (Brenda), both of Sydney Mines; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.
Besides her parents, Carmie was predeceased by her brother, Arlie, sister-in-law, Dorothy, and son-in-law, Len Miller.
Visitation for Carmelita Ivey will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. The burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carmie’s memory may be made to Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
