GAUDET – Jean “John” Berchmans of Prince Albert passed away peacefully on July 8, 2011 at the age of 87 years. John was born on November 7, 1923 in Bellevue, SK. John is survived by his son Vincent (Ruth) Gaudet of Humboldt, SK and their children Michael (Amanda Booth) of Outlook, SK and Thomas of Regina, SK; daughter Joanne (Dennis) Hebert and their children Gabrielle and Luc of Chatham, ON; daughter Renee (Alvin) Harasyn and their children Karl, Paul and Nicole of Prince Albert, SK and son Philippe (Denise) Gaudet of Prince Albert, SK and their children Mathieu of Saskatoon, SK and Christopher of Prince Albert, SK. John is also survived by his sister Colombe Trudel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. John was predeceased by his loving wife Denise of 52 years; his daughter Lizanne; his parents Armand and Berthe Gaudet; five brothers Edmour, Nestor, Gonzague, Arcade & Misael and two sisters Bibiane & Rose-Amande. John graduated from the Birks School of watch repair in 1947 and shortly thereafter opened a jewellery store in Verdun, Quebec. A plea from his mother to return to Saskatchewan brought John to Prince Albert where he successfully owned and operated Strohan Gaudet Credit Jewellers on Central Avenue. John married Denise on January 24, 1955 and together they raised five children. His passion for farming led him to purchase land near Alingly, SK where he spent many happy years with Denise until their retirement from the farm. Throughout his life John was blessed with many loyal friends who extended compassion and understanding during his most difficult time after the loss of Denise, his true love. John’s final years were spent at Good Shepherd Villas where he received exceptional care. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dad’s many caregivers, friends and relatives who spent time with him. Your kindness shall never be forgotten. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Maurice Fiolleau as Celebrant and Colin Roy as Seminarian. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Mont St. Joseph Foundation. Condolences may be sent to family members at www.grays.ca.
