Surrounded by her loving family, Jenny passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2009 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility.
Born and raised in South Bar, she was the eldest daughter of the late Herbert and Ella (White) MacGillvary. Jenny resided in Howie Centre with her husband and family for many years and began her career as a salesperson for Eaton’s Department Store. Merchant’s Clothing Store and McCurdy’s. Jenny was very much a part of the Charlotte Street social scene. She finished her career as supervisor of the laundry section of the MacGillvary Guest Home. Jenny was one of the first women and youngest to obtain her driver’s license in Sydney. Jenny was known by her family and friends as a dedicated follower of fashion and was very proud of making and designing most of her own clothes. Jenny loved music, dancing, playing cards and sewing and shared all of her talents with several senior citizen clubs of which she as a member. After retirement, Jenny became very active in the Riverview, Spanish River and Marion Bridge Senior Citizens Club, helping to organize dances and activities.
Surviving are her son, Daniel (Kathy) MacDonald, Coxheath and her stepson, Peter (Lynn) Kinsella, Rothsay, N.B.; her two grandchildren, Brennan, Vancouver and Leigh, Glace Bay and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Herbert (Isobel) MacGillivary, South Bar; William (Phyllis) MacGillvary, Dartmouth; sisters, Connie (Greg) Boone, New Waterford; Cecilia (Tom) Nearing; Guelph, ON, and many nieces and nephews.
Jenny was predeceased by her first husband, Neil MacDonald and her second husband, Bob Kinsella; two infant children, Barbara Jean and Mary Elizabeth; two sisters, Rita Melynk and Bernadette Bryden.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass for Jenny will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River on Monday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Will MacPherson and Fr. Paul MacGillvary concelebrating.
