Carol Marie Martin, 71, of Glace Bay passed away, Friday September 18, 2009 at the An Cala, palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Murdock and Jessie (Campbell) McKenzie.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen where she was a choir member for many years. She was also a member of Ring 73 Ladies Auxilliary.
Carol is survived by loving sons; Greg (Fran), Glace Bay, Fabian, Alberta and Wayne (Carol), Dominion, grandchildren; Jennifer (Parker), Glace Bay, Daniel (Shaunalee), Glace Bay, Logan, David, Jessie , Faith, all of Alberta and McKenzie, Dominion and by great granddaughter, Anna.
Also surviving is sister, Gwen (Butch Davis) and very special nieces, Martha Cameron and Ann Michalik. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Adrian ‘Minnow’, brothers, Fabian , James ‘Buddy’ and sister, Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Hillier.
Visitation for Carol Martin will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 from 7-9 pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen with Fr. Boone officiating. Internment in St. John’s Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made either to the Palliative Care Society or Ring 73 Boxing Society. The family at this time would like to extent heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at both the Cape Breton Cancer Center and the Palliative Care Center for their loving kindness and care during this difficult time. Special ‘thanks’ also to Dr. O’Brien for all his care and kindness.
