Lieu de décès : Reserve Mines, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 14 juillet 2011

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Mary Violet McNeil on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Violet was a longtime resident of Wilson’s Road, Reserve Mines.
She was quiet and unassuming; family and church were the focus of her life. Violet was blessed with the gift of faith and prayer was a part of her daily life. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s parish, Reserve Mines, and was actively involved in the Altar Society and CWL in which organizations she held various offices up to her 90th year.
Her keen sense of humour will be greatly missed. Family and friends will treasure the quilts she lovingly created for them and the embroidery and crochet items she crafted and donated to church and community functions.
Left to mourn are her six children, Sr. Marionita McNeil, S.C., Halifax, twin daughters, Elaine (Hayes) MacNeil, Sydney, Eleanor (Tom) Murphy, Sydney, Allan (Patsy) McNeil, Tanglewood, Jake (Gina Stelmach) McNeil, Reserve Mines, and Leonard (Anne) McNeil, Bedford. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gina Commerford, Ottawa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alex, her parents, and her only sibling and his wife, Ervin (Mary) Wilson.
There will be no public visitation. A mass of thanksgiving for the life of Violet will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. All are invited to attend. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only, but if so desired, donations may be made the C.W.L., St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
Violet’s family would like to extend special thanks to the Cape Breton County Homemakers whose visits enriched her life in countless ways and to Seaview Manor who provided her with ‘a home away from home,’ these past 16 months. As well, great appreciation is extended to Dr. Bobby Cohen and Dr. Mark Elleker for their excellent care.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
