With his loving family at his side, George peacefully passed away at Overlander Extended Care. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
George is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Edith, children Shirley (Dave) Tucker, Gordon (Brenda), Brian (Sheila), Sandra, Doug (Pierina), Cheryl (Scott) Judson, Andrea Gunderson, Robert Adolph, John Freakley, Carolyn Brown, 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Pearl Storey, Ann Makichuk, Violet Hilash, Irene Dick and Rose Laveay and his brothers Mike and Steve.
George was predeceased by his mother and father, Katherine and John Nystoruk, brothers Bill and Gene, sisters Helen Kalanchy, Mary Atamanchuk, Martha Romailler and Lee Bruner.
George was born on February 28, 1926 in Arran, Sask., one of 14 children born to Katherine and John Nystoruk. In 1947 he left the farm life and moved to Kamloops, BC where he began his career as a carman at Canadian Pacific Railway. On September 23, 1954, George and Edith were married and raised their family of 10 children.
George was an active member of the Moose Lodge in Kamloops. He was a coach and volunteer of Kamloops Minor Softball and Special Olympics for many years.
Our family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Paul Yanko, and also to the staff of Overlander Extended Care for the wonderful care of our husband and father.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the Kamloops Special Olympics.
A Celebration of George's life will be held at Schoening Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a viewing at 9:00 a.m., prior to the service. Cremation to follow.
