It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Kevin at home on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Toronto, Ont., he was the son of John and Betty (Miller) Matheson, Glace Bay.
Kevin served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 13 and one half years, and later was employed as an oil truck driver until his illness. He was a member of the East Bay Legion. He was a huge fan of the Boston Bruins, NASCAR and Mark Martin was who he rooted for. He enjoyed shooting darts, playing pool, water skiing and he loved listening to music. He was involved in the Vince Ryan Tournament as a player and a dedicated volunteer. Kevin enjoyed having kitchen ceilidhs at home with his friends.
Kevin enjoyed many nights with his family and friends at their family bungalow on the Mira River, having bon fires, and participating in the poker runs. Kevin was very family oriented and introduced many friends and children to Mira Gut; taking them for boat rides to see the eagles nest, water tubing, searching for sea glass, sand dollars, digging quahogs and fishing for mackerel. Kevin had a great outlook on life, he lived each day to the fullest.
Besides his parents, Kevin, also known as ‘Wilson’ is survived by his loving wife, best friend and soul mate, Donna (Magliaro) Matheson; daughters, Nicole MacNeil (Kirk), Jennifer Matheson (Sam); sons, Jamie and Joey Matheson, Kraig Reid; his precious grandchildren, Brandyn, Andrew, Chloe and Timothy.

Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take 11 a.m.Thursday, Sept. 24 at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating.
