It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph ‘Joey’ Filek on Sept. 19, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 78.
Joe was born April 28, 1931, to the late Mary and Joe Filek of Grand Lake Road in Sydney.
Joe worked for Eastern Bakeries Ltd. for over 40 years, where he met the one love of his life, Kay. Together they shared 55 years in a joyful and fulfilling marriage.
Joe always enjoyed his animals, raising sheep, goats, pigeons, chickens and rabbits and extended his interests to the Cape Breton Wildlife Association, where he was bestowed the honour of Lifetime Member. Joe looked forward to the summer drives with family and so cherished the days he spent in Mull River with his good buddies hunting and fishing.
In addition to Kay, Joe is survived by his sons and their families, Joseph and Tammy, Edward and Karen and the apple of his eye and so many treasured memories, Julia Louise. Joe has one brother, Raymond (Paula), of Milford, N.S., and was predeceased by his sister, Rosalie Liptak (Andy), U.S.A.
Joe was loved and will be deeply missed by many close friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 immediately followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. and a light reception. Burial will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Heart or Lung Association or a charity of your choosing.
Dad, as we mourn your passing, we reflect on how blessed we were to have you in our lives and now in our hearts forever.
