It is with sadness that we announce the death of Gervais Lionel ‘Gerry’ Labrie, after a long and courageous battle with COPD, on Tuesday, July 19, 2011.
Born May 16, 1932 in Rimouski, Quebec, he was the son of the late Lionel and Stella (Belanger) Labrie.
Gerry retired as chief petty officer from the RCN after 23 years of service. After leaving the navy, he was employed by Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Ont., Port Hawkesbury, N.S. and Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company, Hantsport, N.S.
Gerry enjoyed travelling, hiking, hunting, fishing and reading. He especially enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Big Beach, C.B., playing 45s and having a good drink of rum with friends.
He is survived by sisters, Pierrette (Claude) Marman, Michelle (Vince) Hunt; brothers, Camille (Yvette), Alain (Claudette); sister-in-law, Velma Labrie and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 50+ years, Marion (Burke) Lebrie; brothers, Giles and Claude.
We would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for their care and devotion.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr. J.A. MacNeil officiating.
