Soley Rankin Lynds, 74, North River
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Soley Rankin Lynds on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in North River, he was a son of the late J. Rankin and Prudence (Sharpe) Lynds. He is survived by daughters, Patricia (Billy) Yorke, Onslow Mountain, Wendy Lynds (Anthony Purdy), Bible Hill; granddaughters, Garrett Lynds, Rebecca Yorke; his loving companion of 20 years, Brenda Moore; brothers, Stewart (Lola), Eric (Anna), both of North River; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jean Lynds brothers-in-law, Bob Gogan and Warren Frizzell.
Soley was a well-known electrical contractor who owned and operated his own business for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. He also served two terms as a councillor for the County of Colchester. Soley enjoyed his sawmill and had a great love for the outdoors. He was predeceased by brother, Warren; sisters, Georgia Frizzell and Marjorie Gogan.
By Soley’s request, there will be no visitation or public memorial service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. A celebration of Soley’s life for friends and neighbours will take place at the North River United Church from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Donations in Soley’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Aenon Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro.
