A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on July 19, 2011, at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary enjoyed country music, bowling and gardening. She was faithful to her religion and found great comfort in the rosary. But mostly, she will be remembered as a wonderful and compassionate lady who loved her independence.
Born in Judique, she was the daughter of the late Archie J. and Christy Belle MacDonald. She was a member of St. Augustine’s parish.
She is survived by daughters, Carol (Richard) O’Connell, Halifax, Vera at home, Chrissy (Melvin) Ferguson, Sydney; dear son, Nicky (Brenda) Bersuk, Windsor, Ont.; seven grandsons; one granddaughter, great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Beloved sisters, Kaye MacDonald, Judique, Mary Anne Rankin, Mabou.
She was predeceased by husband, Michael; son, Michael; sisters, Peggy McLane, Mae Faye, Rachel MacIsaac; brothers, John, James, Josie, Rhoddie MacDonald.
The family would like to thank our sister, Vera (Duncan) for the loving care given to mom who showed great kindness, dedication, and countless hours spent with mom.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Theresa’s Church. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
