It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Moore of Glace Bay. Gerald passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Eva (Campbell) and the late Robert Moore.
Gerald was a bricklayer by trade and operated his own business, Jade Masonry in Glace Bay for 17 years. For the last three years, he was employed with the Cape Breton District School Board. Gerald was an avid Boston Bruins fan and so happy to see them win this year’s Stanley Cup.
Gerald will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Marion ‘Betty’ (Swartzack); daughter, Jerilyn (Robert) Young, Oromocto, N.B.; sons, Robert Dale (Pam), Glace Bay, Richard Allen (Susan), Cold Lake, Alta.; his mother, Eva; brothers, Cecil, Roy (Doretta), John (Tracey), all of Glace Bay; sisters, Beatrice (Aubrey) Roberts, Ontario, Bernice (Tommy) O’Donnell, Ontario; cherished grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Noah, Kayla and an expected grandson to be. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Jackie (Simon) MacKinnon, Sydney, Anne (Harvey) Ellsworth, Jerusha (Gerald) Yorke, Cynthia (John) Peach, Judy Swartzack; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Brenda), Joey (Coleen), Anthony (Marianne), all of Glace Bay; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, Gerald was predeceased by brothers, Robert Dale ‘Honey’, Charles Anthony ‘Chuck’, parents-in-law, John and Irene Swartzack and brother-in-law, John.
The family would to like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kevin McNeil, Dr. Sonia Fairfield, all the nursing staff at ICU and 3 East, Glace Bay Hospital for their excellent care.
In honoring Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Tuesday, July 26. Rev. Clayton Austin will be officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
