It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Francis Vincent ‘Dynamite’ MacDonald on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney, Frank was the son of the late Ralph and Genevieve (Bates) MacDonald.
He spent his younger years working at Ralph’s Irving, his father’s service station in Ashby. After that in 1969 he joined the fire department later to retire in 1995 as Captain.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Penney) MacDonald; son, Gary (Lynn) MacDonald, Fredericton; daughter Colleen (Paul) Mombourquette, Sydney Forks. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Tracey, Paul, Nicole, Patrick, Melissa and Jeremy; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Pennie, Ethan, Emma and Jesse.
He was the last surviving member of his family.
Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph Jr., Bud and Ross.
Cremation has taken place and by request of the family there will be no visitation. A funeral celebrating Frank’s life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, with Fr. James Oliver officiating, reception to follow in church hall.
