James Francis McKinnon

August 20, 1941 – July 26, 2011
After an illness of several months James Francis McKinnon, 69, of MacLellan’s Brook, passed away July 26, 2011, surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
Jim was born in Stellarton and had a 41 year career with the CNR and Via Rail. He started there as a callboy while he attended school. After his retirement he spent 11 years at the Trenton Legion, Branch 29. He was widely respected for his work there. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and time with family and friends. Except when work took him away he was a homebody. His Chihuahua, Sophie, always brought a smile to him especially after he became ill.
Jim married the love of his life, Patricia (Whitey) MacEwan and they were married for 48 years. His other great loves were his children, James Francis (Jim) Jr., Kentville, John Alex, (Jean) MacLellan’s Brook; and Angela Love (Bill Pasley), Middleton. Jim had a special name for Angela.  He called her Magoo. He was known as NARNAR to his loving grandchildren: James Francis (Jamie); Jordan Michael; John James (J.J.); Saquoia Catherine Jane; and Anthony (Tony) Alexander. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters: Teresa (Stewart Morris); Angela (Gerald Swallow); Mary (Robert Ellis); John; Ian; Michael (Tony) and Gregory (Tim) and several nephews and nieces.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris McKinnon and nephew Tony Morris, all of Stellarton.
By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be at Lourdes Cemetery and is for family only.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital where Jim received excellent care during his last days.
