GILKS, JOAN AVIS - The passing of Joan Avis Gilks of Maugerville, N.B. occurred Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. She was 71. Born August 6, 1939 in Upper Queensbury, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alberta (Cliff) Keetch. Joan was employed for a number of years in the Food Service Industry. Joan loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, gardening and four wheeling. She was well known for her baking skills especially when it came to her donuts, bread and rolls. Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Gordon W. Gilks; her daughter Kim (Lyndon) Howe of French Lake, N.B.; four grandchildren, Paige, Sheldon, Krista and Rodney; two great grandchildren, Samuel and Sara; five brothers and sisters, Ivan, Inez, Aubrey, Judith and Alta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan is also survived by a special friend, Sheila. Joan was predeceased by her parents; a son Gordon; a daughter Lynn; step-father Robert Buchanan; brothers Kenneth, Clarence and Emery.
No visitation by request. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Maugerville United Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Charles Harvey will officiate. Memorials to the Cancer Research; the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
