It is with great sadness that the family of Matilda (Currie) Gillis announce her passing on Monday, July 25, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she had resided for many years.
Born in Sydney, Tillie was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mary (MacNeil) Currie (Columbia St.), Sydney. She was educated at Constantine and Sydney Academy and was a graduate of N.S. Normal College.
Left to mourn her passing are daughter, Jane (Roy) Hella and sons, Daniel and Paul, all of Albuquerque. She was a wonderful “Nana” to her precious grandchildren, Mollie and Joe. Also surviving are her brother, Michael and sisters, Helen (Steve) Pachok, all of Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Tillie was predeceased by husband, Gerald Gillis (formerly of Glace Bay) and a son, Joseph; sisters, Theresa and Frances and brothers, Donald, Neil and Peter (in infancy).
Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date in Ottawa, alongside Gerald and Joe.
