With saddened hearts we, the family of John D. ‘Bunny’ MacLeod announce his passing Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital. John D. died peacefully after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
John D. was the son of the late William and Katherine MacLeod of Big Bras d’Or, where he resided throughout his life.
John D. was a coal miner, carpenter and Jack of All Trades. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was avid Boston Bruins fan.
John D. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
John D. is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Audrey (Pero); son, William (Linda); grandchildren, Alesha, Stephanie (Cory), Matthew and Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Emma; his guardian angel, Pat MacLeod; his special chosen sister, Eileen MacLennan; special friend and companion, Ricky Penny and his son, Ricky Penny; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Katherine and his brother, Daniel ‘Babe’.
Visitation was held in Francis Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Monday, Aug. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private funeral will be held at Francis Funeral Home, today (Tuesday, Aug. 2) at 11 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Interment in Black Rock Cemetery.
